Jimmy, My Pet Triop

Ihad ordered a package for a bug like animal. After weeks of waiting itfinally arrived! I raced home and waited for my mom to help me withgetting it started. It was some time in September. I got a almost clearcup, filled it with water, and stuck the thermometer on the outside. Igot the small capsule filled with up to twenty eggs. I poured theEXTREMELY small eggs in carefully and  poured in the other little packfilled with what looked like wood chips and needle and waited. Waiting, waiting, waiting. I think it was a week when I saw something that waswiggling around in the water! I was going to kill because I was worriedit might eat the other eggs and I would have none but I let it live inthe cup. It swam and swam and swam. It looked pretty weird at themoment because it looked like a small turtle pooped and the poo swamaround and stuff. I had to put a lamp over top so that he could survivethe cold. He started taking shape and before I knew it, I had a triop!

Cleaning his tank once he was old enough to live in was a bit of ahassle but it was worth it. My mom and I put sand on a little part inthe tank, where the sand is suppose to be. I named him Jimmy for noreason, it just plopped into my mind. I remember one day the light bulbthat gave him life burnt out and we only had one light that gave offbarely any heat. Later we got a new light and screwed it in and he wassafe again. Something was left out in the instruction’s, triops shed.So every once in a while I had to scoop out the skin and flush it downthe toilet.

Itwas December, the twentieth, five days till Christmas. I was playing agame on the computer, I was at my dads house. I had got a call from myMom so I picked it up and my Mom had told me that she was worried. Shetold me that Jimmy had stopped moving. He was in mid shed and hestopped moving. My Mom didn’t know exactly if he was dead, but she wasthinking he was, I was too. When I came back home I watched Jimmy justlay in the water, lifeless. I sat on the stair case of my home as mybrother flushed him down the toilet. Five days later it was Christmas.I was excited and sad at the same time because if Jimmy lived just foranother five days, he would have got a nice present and I wouldn’t ofhave been so unhappy.
